Men's Water Polo Ends Fall Break Trip with 12-3 Win Over Occidental

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Junior Adam Yerkes (Orlando, Fla./Winter Park) scored three goals and had one assist, and three other players scored twice as the Bucknell men's water polo team defeated Occidental, 12-3, in its final game of the Claremont Convergence in Claremont, Calif. on Saturday. The Bison end their trip 2-2 and now hold a 6-9 overall record.
In addition to Yerkes' offensive points, he was also solid on defense, recording three steals. Sophomores Jamie Saettele (St. Louis, Mo./Ladue Horton Watkins) and Scott Afzal (Ellicott City, Md./McDonogh School), and freshman Nick Ferring (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Country Day) each scored two goals in the win. Saettele also grabbed one steal and had three ejections drawn, while Afzal also recorded one steal.
Junior Daniel Lonnerdal (Davis, Calif./Davis), sophomore John Kearney (Ventura, Calif./Cate School) and freshman Sam Sullivan (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) contributed with one goal each to account for BU's other scores.
Freshman Ernest Martin (Winchester, Calif./Perris), making his first start of the season, recorded six saves in the goal.
Bucknell is 6-9 on the year and is in competition next at the Inter-regional Competition at Princeton. The Orange and Blue will face Washington & Jefferson on Friday, October 19, at 7:00 p.m., before challenging George Washington at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
