Sophomore Boakai Lalugba Named Patriot League Men's Basketball Player of the Week

LEWISBURG, PA - Bucknell University sophomore Boakai Lalugba (East Orange, N.J./Bishop Francis Essex Catholic) was named the Patriot League Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 7, 2001.
The 6'6," 220-pound forward averaged 21.5 points and 12 rebounds while leading Bucknell to a 1-1 record last week. He scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the Bison's 73-58 victory over Mount St. Mary's, and then followed that performance with 23 points and 14 rebounds in a setback to Canisius. The 23 points against the Griffs tied his career-high, while the 14 caroms set a new personal standard.
Lalugba, who ranks second on the team and fifth in the Patriot League in scoring at 15.2 points per game, canned 20-of-31 shots to shoot 64.5% from the field. In the last seven ball games he has shot 60.4% (55-91), and averaged 17.6 points and 8.9 rebounds. Lalugba leads the team and ranks second in the conference in rebounding at 7.9 boards per contest.
Bucknell will open Patriot League play on Wednesday, January 10, when it travels to Annapolis, Md., to take on the Midshipmen of Navy. Tip-off in Alumni Hall is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
