4th Annual Bison Open Run Smoothly As Bucknell Pentathletes Turn-in Solid Performances

4TH Annual Bison Open with Bloomsburg, Dickinson, East Stroudsburg, Hartwick, Haverford, Millersville, Monmouth, Mount St. Mary's, Muhlenberg, Shippensburg, Susquehanna, Temple, Wagner, and Western Maryland
Lewisburg, Pa. - This afternoon many Bison stayed home and hosted the 4th annual Bison Open in a non-scoring meet over the weekend. Most notable performances for Bucknell came from the men and women competing in the Pentathlon.
In the women's pentathlon, freshman Jamie Lilien (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) came away victorious in her first-ever pentathlon competition. Lilien finished the competition with 3312 points, only 26 points better than her nearest competitor who finished with 3286 points. The pentathlon is comprised of the 55-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump, and 800-meter run. Lilien gained valuable points in the shot put and long jump with distances of 31' 1 ?" and 16' 11 ?", respectively. Also competing for the women's team in the pentathlon was freshman Lura Wasileski (Elysburg, Pa./Southern Columbia) who placed sixth in the competition with 2250 points.
Senior Matt Murdock (Donora, Pa./Ringgold) and sophomore Bryan Witkowski (Middletown, Pa./Middletown Area) competed for the Orange and Blue in the men's pentathlon. Murdock finished in third place with a total of 3117 points while his teammate, Witkowski, placed 9th with 2322 points. Murdock was consistent across the board as he turned in solid performances in the 55-meter high hurdles, long jump, shot put, high jump, and 1000-meter run.
The track and field team will finally leave the Lewisburg Area next weekend as they travel to Hamilton, N.Y. for a dual meet with Colgate on Saturday, February 3, and will then head to East Stroudsburg on Sunday, February 4.
