Lewisburg, Pa. --- The Bucknell men and women claimed first place in a scoring meet held at Gerhard Fieldhouse on Saturday. The Bison men posted eight first-place finishes and scored a team total of 212 points, outdistancing runner-up St. Francis (Pa.) (109) by nearly doubling its point total. The Bucknell women had 11 first-place showings, and finished with 199 points, besting runner-up Temple by more than 70 points.
In addition to the eight event titles by the Bison men, three individuals placed on the school's all-time Top-10 performers chart. Sophomore Adam Kaufman (Bridgeton, N.J./St. Mark's) bested his previous distance of 48'9" in the 35 lb. weight throw by tossing it 51'9 ?" on Saturday. The toss is not only a career-best but it also puts Kaufman in sixth place all-time at Bucknell. "Vaulting" themselves onto the all-time performers chart were freshman Jeff Arek (Shrewsbury, N.J./Red Bank Regional) and sophomore Adam Jacob (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) in the pole vault. Arek and Jacob both cleared a height of 14'9" which is good enough for a tie for eighth on the BU all-time performers chart.
The women had four individuals place on the all-time performances in chart. Three pole vaulters did not change position on the all-time performances list, but they did improve on their career bests. Freshman Shannon Benson (Visalia, Calif./Golden West) remained in second by clearing 10'10". Classmate Abigail Bouzan-Kalooustia (Orrington, Maine/Brewer) stayed in third on the charts by matching her career-best of 10'4". Finally, junior Samantha Klotz (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional) broke into the top-ten when she cleared a height of 8'10" in the pole vault. Winning the 20 lb. weight throw with a distance of 47'6 ?", freshman Maria Garcia (Providence, R.I./Hope) also moved into the seventh slot on the top-ten performers list at Bucknell.
The men's and women's track & field teams will host the annual Bison Open and a plethora of schools next weekend, on Saturday, January 27 in Gerhard Fieldhouse.
