LEWISBURG, PA - Junior point guard Bryan Bailey (Hempstead, N.Y./South Side) scored 29 points on eight-of-10 shooting from the field to lead Bucknell to a 73-59 victory over Army in Patriot League action on Saturday afternoon. It was the Bison's eighth straight win over the Cadets.
Bailey, who scored 15 points in the first half to help stake Bucknell to a 36-31 advantage at the break, was a perfect four-for-four from three-point range and connected on nine-of-14 shots at the free throw line in falling just one point shy of tying his career-high. In addition, he grabbed eight rebounds, handed out three assists and made three steals as the Bison improved to 9-8 (2-2 Patriot League) on the season.
Army (5-11, 0-3) jumped out to an early 11-5 lead behind four points from forward Dax Pearson and a three-pointer from guard Chris Spatola. But the Bison turned the tide with a nine-to-two run and took the lead, 14-13, on a layup from Bailey with 10:35 to play. Bucknell never trailed again in the ball game.
Leading 44-38 with 13:34 remaining in the game, the Bison put the contest away with a 19-5 run. Bailey had nine points during that stretch, while sophomore forward Boakai Lalugba (East Orange, N.J./Bishop Francis Essex Catholic) added five. Lalugba finished the game with 16 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Sophomore guard Dan Blankenship (Moundsville, W.Va./Wheeling Park) added eight points and matched his career-high with six assists.
