Bucknell Women's Basketball Team Uses Solid Defense in the Second Half to Come Away with 69-46 Victory at Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. - The Bucknell defense did its job in the second half of play, turning a one-point halftime deficit into a 23-point victory, as the Bison cruised to a 69-46 Patriot League win at Lafayette on Saturday, January 13.
Bucknell and Lafayette fought through a sloppy first half that featured a combined 26 turnovers. Despite outshooting the Leopards, 44.0% to 33.3%, the Orange and Blue could not could not take control of the game and found themselves trailing 33-32 at the break. The Bison led by as many as three in the frame, but Lafayette enjoyed the advantage for a majority of the stanza.
In the second half, the Bucknell defense took over, holding the Leopards to just three field goals in the half, and only one in the final 17:53 of the game. In addition to their defensive efforts, the Bison turned it up on offense, nailing 50.0% (13-26) of their shots in the half. Freshman Desire Almind (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional) scored 17 of her game-high 23 points in the frame on 8-of-10 shooting. Junior Kate Rounsley (Lock Haven, Pa./Lock Haven) provided quality minutes off the bench, equaling her career-high with 14 points, seven in each half.
Also scoring in double-figures for the Bison were junior Vicki Quimby (Wilson, Pa./West Lawn) and sophomore Molly Creamer (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) with 11 each. Quimby now needs just five points to become the 11th female in Bucknell history to reach the 1,000-point plateau.
The Leopards were led by 10 points from freshman Megan Haughey.
Bucknell improves to 11-3 on the year and 2-0 in Patriot League play. The Bison host three-time defending league champion Holy Cross on Wednesday, January 17. Lafayette falls to 4-11 and 0-2 in conference play.
