LEWISBURG, PA - Three Bucknell University football players were honored Tuesday afternoon at the Lewisburg Touchdown Club Luncheon. The player of the game honors for the Cornell contest were selected by the Bucknell coaching staff and publicly announced at the weekly affair.
Junior tailback Jabu Powell (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) was selected as the Offensive-Player-of-the-Game after a record setting performance in the Orange and Blue's 38-15 victory over Cornell, setting new Patriot League and Bucknell single-game rushing yardage marks by rushing for 282 yards on 30 carries. He surpassed Chris Peer's mark of 236 set against Holy Cross in 1997, and set a new conference record by topping former Lehigh standout Rabih Abdullah's 266-yard effort against Cornell in 1994.
Powell averaged 9.4 yards per attempt, had nine runs of 10 or more yards, and scored on runs of 79, 3 and 19 yards. In addition, he caught a pass for 19 yards to finish the day with 301 all-purpose yards. That total ranks as the sixth-best all-purpose yardage game in Patriot League history.
Senior strong safety Justin Lustig (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) was named the Defensive-Player-of-the-Game. Against the opponent that ended his season early with an injury two years ago, Lustig recorded five tackles, a quarterback sack and intercepted a pass. He returned the interception 16 yards to set up a Bison score.
Sophomore running back Todd Warmington (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) was chosen as the Special Teams-Player-of-the-Game. Warmington led a Bison special teams unit that allowed an average of just 13.6 yards per kickoff return. The Big Red began just seven of their 19 drives beyond their own 30-yard line.
Bucknell will host Columbia for Parents Weekend on Saturday, September 23. Kickoff at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium is 1:00 p.m.
