LEWISBURG, Pa. - This morning members of the men's soccer and baseball team spent time with third graders teaching them their respective sport while talking about the negative effects of drugs on an athlete. The group who made the short trip to Kelly Elementary is a part of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
This morning the group talked to third graders about the negative effect of drugs on an athlete and organized some activities for the youngsters. Among the activities were lacrosse, field goal kicking, baseball, and soccer. One member from the men's soccer team, senior Erick Davis (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) had this to say about his morning with the kids, "I really enjoy coming here getting away from the college environment and realizing how much of an impact I can have on someone... especially a kid. It is fun to teach the kids my sport while at the same time expressing to them the negative aspects of using drugs."
Chrissy Findlay, head women's soccer coach, and Barb Jordan, head women's lacrosse coach are the advisor's of the committee. Both have been working together for the past year with SAAC and have greatly expanded the organizations involvement in the community.
The SAAC has been involved in various projects including: visits to local elementary schools, hospitals, and housing authorities, promotion of B.A.A.D. (Bucknell Athletes Against Drugs and Alcohol), and helping to hire a part-time trainer for the Athletic Training Office.
