Bucknell Men's Basketball Opens Up 2000-01 Season With 85-77 Victory Over Lock Haven

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior co-captain Bryan Bailey (Hempstead, N.Y./South Side) led the Bucknell (1-0) men's basketball team to victory over Lock Haven (0-1), 85-77, as he recorded a career-high 30 points. Bailey scored most of his points from the charity stripe, going 17 for 19 from the foul line.
The first half of play was neck-and-neck as Lock Haven shot 48% from the floor to Bucknell's 37.8% field goal percentage. Bald Eagle forward Jason Lucas kept his team in the game as he tallied 11 points in the first stanza. Lock Haven never fell more than eight points behind Bucknell and eventually finished the half trailing by three, 33-30.
Paving the road for Bucknell was sophomore forward Boakai Lalugba (East Orange, N.J./Bishop Francis Essex Catholic) with 12 points in the first half. The Bison outrebounded Lock Haven 20-16 in the first period of play.
Bucknell came out in the second half and scored the first four points to bring the lead to seven. Lock Haven responded to this short run but was not able to keep up with an Orange and Blue 10-0 run at the 15:11 mark in the second stanza. The Bison resisted a late game effort by Lock Haven, 17-24 (70.8%) from the field in the period, to ring up the 85-77 victory.
Also scoring in double digits for Bucknell was Lalugba with a career-high 23 points and senior co-captain Jake Ramage (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) with 10. As a team, the Bison shot 46.4% in the contest and 73.2% from the free throw line (30-41).
Lock Haven stayed in the game due to some great shooting, a 59.2% field goal percentage in the contest. However, with the defeat Lock Haven drops to 0-1 on the season.
The Bucknell men's basketball team improves to 1-0 on the season and 85-20 in home openers during the programs history. Bucknell will play next when it hosts St. Francis (PA) on Tuesday, November 18, 2000 at 7:30 p.m. in Davis Gymnasium.
