Cross Country Teams Finish Strong at ECAC & IC4A Championships

Women's Results: 1st out of 10 teams (60 pts) Men's Results: 5th out of 16 teams (156 pts)
New York, N.Y. --- The Bucknell University men's and women's cross country teams competed at the ECAC and IC4A Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in New York City this morning and had a very successful day. The women won the ECAC race with a team total of 60 points, narrowly defeating James Madison who finished second with 62. The men placed fifth in the IC4A race with a team total of 156.
Junior co-captain Becki Marshall (Montgomery, N.Y./Pine Bush Central) was once again the top runner for the Bison, crossing the finish line in second place overall in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:52.20. Sophomores Andrea Beisser (Ames, Iowa/Ames) and Theresa Dennis (Wilkes Barre, Pa./Hanover Area) joined Marshall in the Top-10 with sixth- (17:59.00) and eighth-place (18:12.20) finishes, respectively.
Junior Chris Crowe (State College, Pa./State College) finished 15th with a time of 18:30.80, while senior co-captain Mandy Youmell (Weedsport, N.Y./Weedsport) closed out Bucknell's top-five runners by finishing 31st in 19:09.00.
Junior Kelly McConnell (Danville, Pa./Danville) and freshman Jennifer Malcolm (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) also competed, but did not figure in the scoring for the Orange and Blue. McConnell crossed the line in 40th place with a time of 19:35.90, while Malcolm was 47th in 19:57.50.
On the men's side, sophomore Greg Costello (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) was Bucknell's top finisher, placing 27th with a time of 25:43.10 on the 8k course. Senior co-captain Brad Wertz (Altoona, Pa/Bellwood-Antis) was 29th in 25:45.30, followed by senior co-captain Kevin Weatherill (Swedesboro, N.J./The Peddie School) and junior Evan Honeyfield (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro) who finished 35th (25:49.90) and 36th (25:50.40), respectively. Junior P.J. Ward (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) closed out Bucknell's Top-5 with a 49th-place finish in 26:14.10.
Sophomores Bryan Johnston (Kane, Pa./Kane Area) and Louis Palma (Gladstone, N.J./Bernards) also competed, but did not figure in the team scoring for the Bison. Johnston finished in 55th place in a time of 26:23.60, while Palma was 70th in 26:42.50.
Bucknell runners also competed in the Men's and Women's Coaches races (junior varsity races). Junior Kristen Ferrell (San Rafael, Calif./San Francisco University) was the Bison's top female, finishing in 10th-place with a time of 19:53.10, while senior Dana Carr (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) crossed the line first for the men in fifth-place at 26:20.80.
