LEWISBURG, PA - The Bucknell University men's basketball team was chosen to finish fifth in the preseason Patriot League poll. The voting was conducted by a panel of head coaches, media and sports information directors.
Navy received 14 first-place votes and totaled 104 points as the preseason favorite, followed by two-time defending champion Lafayette with 90 points. Holy Cross finished third in the poll with 76 points, followed by Colgate at 63, Bucknell at 48, Lehigh at 42 and Army at 19. Navy senior guard Chris Williams, a two-time All-Patriot League First Team selection, was tabbed as the preseason Player of the Year.
Head coach Pat Flannery's squad returns nine letterwinners, including junior point guard Bryan Bailey (Hempstead, N.Y./South Side) (11.4 ppg) and senior sharpshooter Jake Ramage (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown). Ramage missed the entire year last year with a knee injury, and his return will help make up for the loss of five seniors and 70 percent of the team's offense to graduation.
The Bison open the 2000-01 season at home on Saturday, November 18 against Lock Haven.
