Volleyball Ball Team Completes October Break Trip 3-0

New Britain, Conn. --- This evening in its final game of a three game road trip, the women's volleyball team defeated Central Connecticut 3-0, improving its record to 9-11 on the season.
The Orange and Blue, coming off conference victories at Army and Holy Cross, defeated Central Connecticut in three quick games. The match lasted a total of 80 minutes as the Bison won the three sets, 15-3, 15-12, and 15-8. Coach Opalski used this contest as an opportunity to get everyone on the roster some experience and playing time.
Leading the way on the offensive front for Bucknell was junior Shannon Walker (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield) and senior co-captain Brooke Bader (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria). Walker tallied 13 kills on 21 attempts while only committing four hitting errors. Bader had an equally strong evening completing 12 kills on 24 attempts with only two errors. The two finished the match with excellent hitting percentages of .429 and .417 respectively.
As a team, the Orange and Blue finished with seven service aces and held Central Connecticut to a team hitting percentage of .048. Walker had a total of four blocks in the match, tying for the team best with sophomore Melanie Ghiz (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) who recorded one solo block and three assisted blocks.
After tonight's victory the Bison improve to 9-11 on the season and remain undefeated in conference play. The Orange and Blue will play again this Thursday night, October 12 at 7:30 p.m. when they host Patriot League rival Lehigh, in Davis Gymnasium.
