Volleyball Drops Conference Match To Lehigh 3-1

Lewisburg, Pa. --- This evening the Bucknell women's volleyball team dropped its first Patriot League contest of the season to a tough team from Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks outlasted the Orange and Blue in a four-set match that ended in favor of Lehigh, 3-1.
Lehigh jumped out to a quick start in the match by taking the first two sets, 16-14 and 15-10. With their backs up against the wall, the Orange and Blue responded to the pressure with a decisive 15-3 third set victory. However, the Bison ran out of steam in the fourth set, which Lehigh would end up winning 15-13.
The Mountain Hawks were led by strong performances from freshman Jeannette Singleton, and sophomores Rochelle Healea and Samantha Stahl, all of which recorded double-double's. Singleton finished with 16 kills on 47 attempts and 14 defensive digs, her 16 kills a team high. Healea added to the Lehigh punch with 10 kills on 41 attempts while recording only one hitting error. She recorded 14 digs in the contest. Rounding out the hitting threesome for the Mountain Hawks was Stahl with 11 kills and 11 digs. Lehigh improves to 11-9 overall on the season and now has a 4-1 conference record.
The Bison, who played a very tough match, also had two individuals record double-double's. Freshman Brandi Trapasso (N. Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) and senior co-captain Brooke Bader (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) finished with 12 kills each. Trapasso completed her double-double by digging 14 balls and Bader completed hers with 13 defensive digs. Junior Shannon Walker (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield) led the Bison with 16 kills in the contest.
Bucknell falls to 9-12 overall on the season and 4-1 in Patriot League action. The Bison remain in first place but are now tied with Lehigh. The volleyball team will try to redeem itself this weekend, Saturday, October 14, when it hosts Lafayette at 7:30 p.m.
