Volleyball Team Improves To 2-0 In The Patriot League

Hamilton, N.Y. --- This evening the Bucknell volleyball team tallied its second Patriot League victory of the season with a 3-1 win over Colgate. The Bison took the first set 15-7 and Colgate responded by winning the second game 15-13, tying the match at 1-1. The Orange and Blue pulled together and won the match outright by winning the final two sets 16-14 and a dominating 15-1.
Paving the road for the Orange and Blue was senior co-captain Brooke Bader (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) and sophomore Jennifer Wrigley (Benicia, Calif./Benicia). Bader, a middle hitter, and Wrigley, an outside hitter, both recorded double-double's this evening for the Bison. Bader follows up her perfect night against Navy with another near perfect hitting display, finishing with 20 kills on 38 attempts with only 4 errors for a .421 hitting percentage. She completed the double-double by recording 14 defensive digs during the four set contest. Wrigley had an equally strong evening at the net recording 14 kills on 49 attempts to go along with her 20 defensive digs. The double-double's were the first of the season for both athletes.
On a historical note for the volleyball team, junior setter Whitney Williams (LaJolla, Calif./LaJolla) moved past Molly Brown '01 into third for career set assists at Bucknell. Williams had 61 set assists in the contest, 575 on the season and 1385 in her career.
The Colgate Red Raiders were led by senior Laura Rohrbacher who had her second perfect hitting night of the season. Rohrbacher had 18 kills on 43 attempts with no errors for a hitting percentage of .419.
The volleyball team improves to 6-11 on the season and a 2-0 record in conference play. Colgate falls to 3-14 on the season and 1-1 in Patriot League action. The Orange and Blue will play again this weekend when they have two conference match-ups at Army and at Holy Cross. The Army contest will be on Friday, October 6, and the Holy Cross game will be on Saturday, October 7. Both contests will be played at 7:00 p.m.
