LEWISBURG, PA --- The Bucknell University women's cross
country team received 13 votes in the preseason national poll
conducted by the Women's Cross Country Coaches Association to
rank 28th among Division I institutions entering the 2000 season.
Stanford received eight first place votes and 290 points and is
ranked as the top team in the nation, followed by Wisconsin, Colorado,
Kansas State and Georgetown.
Coming off an incredible season which saw them win their second
straight league title and earn an at-large berth to the NCAA Championships,
the Bucknell women were also recently tabbed to repeat as Patriot
League champions in a poll of the league's head coaches and sports
information directors.
Three all-league performers return to lead the women's squad.
Junior Becki Marshall (Montgomery, NY/Pine Bush Central) captured
the individual title last year and is back to lead the team as
one of the co-captains in 2000. Joining Marshall will be sophomores
Andrea Beisser (Ames, IA/Ames), last year's runner up, and sixth-place
finisher Theresa Dennis (Wilkes Barre, PA/Hanover Area).
The women's team begins the 2000 season with a home meet against
Manhattan and Syracuse this Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m.
