LEWISBURG, PA - Three Bucknell University football players
were honored Tuesday afternoon at the Lewisburg Touchdown Club
Luncheon. The player of the game honors for the Georgetown contest
were selected by the Bucknell coaching staff and publicly announced
at the weekly affair.
Senior quarterback Lucas Phillips (Glen Burnie, Md./Mt. St. Joseph's)
was tabbed as the Offensive-Player-of-the-Game after completing
13-of-26 passes for 165 yards and a touchdown in the Bison's 24-10
win at Georgetown. Phillips, who has been the starting quarterback
since the second game of the season, put the game out of reach
with a 34-yard scoring strike to freshman Tim Johnson in the fourth
quarter.
Senior linebacker Chad Marsilio (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk)
was named the Defensive-Player-of-the-Game. Marsilio, who was
suffering from a bad back and was not expected to see much playing
time, if any, played nearly the entire game and led a Bison defense
that allowed just 45 yards rushing. He finished with six tackles
(4 solo), and forced a fumble that gave the Bison the ball deep
in Hoya territory just before the half. Bucknell wound up kicking
a field goal as time expired to take a 10-7 lead into the locker
room. Then, in the third quarter Marsilio recovered a fumble
at the Georgetown 25-yard line. Three plays later the Bison scored
what would be the game-winning touchdown.
Junior free safety Bobby Young (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Radnor) was chosen
as the Special Teams-Player-of-the-Game. Young is a standout
special teams player, particularly on kickoff coverage where he
made two thunderous hits against Georgetown.
Bucknell returns home to the friendly confines of Christy Mathewson-Memorial
Stadium where it will begin Patriot League play on Saturday against
Lafayette. Kickoff is 1:00 p.m.
