Worcester, Mass. --- This evening the Bucknell volleyball
team improved its conference record by defeating Holy Cross on
its home court, 3-2.
For the second straight night the Bison failed to win the first
set, losing it to the Crusaders 15-6. The two teams then split
the next two sets before the Bison cracked down and won the final
two games 15-9 and 15-9.
Similar in style to last night's performance, the Orange and
Blue won the contest because of some timely hitting and excellent
defense. For the second straight night junior middle hitter Shannon
Walker (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield) led the Bison in hitting
with 23 kills on 48 attempts for a hitting percentage of .292.
Supporting Walker on the outside was sophomore Jennifer Wrigley
(Benicia, Calif./Benicia) by killing 20 balls for the Bison.
Wrigley not only shined offensively, but she also tied her career
high for digs in a match with 28 (Army, 11/6/99). Freshman Brandi
Trapasso (N. Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) continued improving
on a fine first season by setting a career high this evening with
24 defensive digs against the Crusaders. She also added 13 kills
to the Bucknell cause.
After getting two wins in as many nights, the Bison improve to 8-11 on the season and a perfect league record of 4-0. The Orange and Blue will play again this Monday night, October 9 at 7:00 p.m. against Central Connecticut. The team will return to conference play later in the week when they host Lehigh on Thursday, October 12 at 7:30 p.m.
