
Water Polo Sweeps First Night Of Competition

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's water polo team
went 3-0 on Saturday, September 16, while hosting the Bucknell
Invitational. The tournament began Friday, September 15, and
concludes tomorrow, Sunday, September 17.
The Bison started their day with a convincing 20-7 victory over
Grove City. Freshman Chris Kearney (Ventura, Calif./Cate School)
led the way for Bucknell with three goals and four steals. Sophomore
Joe Capitan (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) and freshman Jamie
Saettele (St. Louis, Mo./Ladue Horton Watkins) also had three
scores each, while Capitan added one assist.
In the second game of the day, the Orange and Blue handed Washington
& Jefferson a 20-11 defeat. Seniors Chris Kempton (New York,
N.Y./Deerfield Academy) and captain Justin McCarty (St. Louis,
Mo./St. Louis Country Day School) got the offense going, tallying
three goals and one assist apiece. Kempton's three scores all
came in the first quarter. Co-captain Kevin Permisohn (Silver
Spring, Md./Springbrook) held things together on the defensive
end, recording a team-high four steals, while also scoring one
goals and adding two assists.
In its final game of the evening, Bucknell challenged Salem-Teikyo
to an exciting 9-7 victory to remain undefeated. Senior Tate
Greditzer (St. Louis, Mo./John Burroughs) led the team with four
goals, while also grabbing three steals. McCarty had another
solid game, scoring two times and recording three steals. Permisohn
led the way with five thefts, while also contributing one goal.
Junior goalkeeper David Kennedy (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Country
Day School) proved steady in the net, stopping nine Salem-Teikyo
goals to hold on for the two-goal victory.
The Bison improve to 7-4 on the season and will conclude play
in the Bucknell Invitational with a 9:00 a.m. game against Slippery
Rock. The Bucknell "B" team will take on Slippery Rock's
"B" team in an 11:30 matchup.
