LEWISBURG, Pa. -
Bucknell head basketball coach Pat Flannery announced today that senior guard Jake Ramage (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) and junior guard Bryan Bailey (Hempstead, N.Y./South Side) have been elected captains for the 2000-01 season.
"I think these are excellent selections by our ball club," commented Flannery. "Jake and Bryan's leadership will be a major factor in our success for a really young club. In addition, both these young men will be counted upon for their abilities on the court. They have experience, quickness and great instincts, and we will ask them to do a lot for us at both ends of the floor."
Ramage returns to the hardwood after missing the entire season a year ago after suffering a torn ACL in a preseason scrimmage. One of the league's premier long-range shooters, he connected on a Patriot League-high 58 three-pointers during the 1998-99 campaign and was selected to the league's all-tournament team for his play in the conference's postseason tournament.
"Jake has worked extremely hard to come back from his injury, and I believe his selection as captain by his teammates illustrates what kind of character he has. It shows our guys recognize his determination and abilities," said Flannery.
Bailey ran the point for the Bison last year, and is the only returning starter in the Bucknell lineup. He ranked second on the team and 12th in the conference in scoring at 11.4 points per game, and was fifth in the Patriot League with a field goal percentage of 49.3.
"Bryan Bailey deserves this honor and has been a natural leader for two years. The amount of effort and competitiveness he shows everyday has rubbed off on many of our players," commented Flannery.
"There's a great respect for these two from our players, coaching staff and many who follow the Bison program."
Bucknell fans will get a chance to preview the 2000-01 version of the Bison on Thursday, November 2, when they host the London Leopards in an exhibition game in Davis Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m. The Bison will tip-off the regular season at home on Saturday, November 18, at 7:30 p.m. against Lock Haven.
