Lyman Ott captained the 1960 and 1961 Bucknell soccer teams, and at the conclusion of his senior season set what was then a school career record of 34 goals. He began his outstanding career by scoring 10 goals during his sophomore season to help lead the Bison to their first winning season in 10 years. As a junior, he scored 14 goals, then a school record, and had seven assists as Coach Hank Peters' team set team marks with seven victories and 39 goals. Ott was also named to the 1960 All-Middle Atlantic Conference Northern Division first team, was a member of the All-Pa., N.J., Del. and All-American squads in 1960, and scored the tying and winning goals in a victory that broke Elizabethtown College's 33-game winning streak. Ott scored 10 more goals as a senior to become the first player in Bucknell history to reach double digits in goals for three straight years. He tied the school record with four goals against Muhlenberg. Recipient of the ECAC Medal of Merit for outstanding scholarship and athletic ability, Ott received a master of science degree in mathematics from Bucknell in 1963 and a Ph. D. degree in statistics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He taught for seven years at the University of Florida and then spent 24 years in the pharmaceutical industry, retiring in 1999 as Senior Vice President of Hoechst Marion Roussel.Â
