Edward E. "Hook" Mylin was head coach of the Bucknell football team that compiled a 6-2-2 regular-season record in 1934 and then defeated Miami 26-0 in the inaugural Orange Bowl on Jan. 1, 1935. Elected to the Helms Football Hall of Fame in 1960, the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 1965, and the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame in 1974, Mylin compiled a 17-9-2 record as head coach at Bucknell in 1934-36. A quarterback and captain of the football team at Franklin & Marshall, he had coached at Lebanon Valley College from 1923-33 before coming to Bucknell. He later had a 36-24-1 record at Lafayette in 1937-42 and 1946, and was head coach at New York University from 1947-49. His Lafayette teams were undefeated in 1937 and 1940, and he was named Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association in 1937. Also the baseball coach at Bucknell, Mylin was widely noted for his keen sense of humor and was praised by one colleague as "the greatest letter writer in the football coaching profession."
