After overseeing Bucknell's recreation services offerings since 2013, associate athletic director Karen Landis shifted to a new role in January 2023 when she succeeded Hall-of-Famer Terrie Grieb as the coordinator of business and team services. Landis is responsible for all accounting and business services and the department’s overall budget and finance.Â
In her previous role, Landis coordinated the critical area of campus recreation, including club sports, group fitness, and intramurals. During her tenure, Bucknell greatly expanded its programming in the areas of wellness and lifetime activities for students, faculty and staff, including the implementation of late-night hours at the Kenneth Langone Athletics and Recreation Center.Â
Landis previously served in Bucknell’s Dean of Students Office as assistant director of fraternity and sorority affairs from 2005-08, and since January of 2008, she had been the manager of major campus engagements within the Office of Development and Alumni Relations. In that position, Landis was responsible for engaging alumni and developing the vision and strategic planning for events such as Reunion Weekend and Homecoming. She managed Bucknell’s Reunion Student Ambassador Program among other duties.Landis is a 1995 graduate of Drexel University, where she was a four-year member of the Dragons’ varsity women’s lacrosse team. She earned a master’s degree in education with a focus on sports leadership and administration from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2000.
From 2000-03, Landis was assistant director of athletics for business and finance at Saint Mary’s College in Moraga, Calif. She also has athletics experience working in the ticket office at VCU in 1999-2000 and as an assistant women’s lacrosse coach at Davidson in 1999.
