Ian Dye assumed the role of assistant director of athletics for aquatics and auxiliary services in August 2018. As a member of Bucknell’s operations and events team, Dye’s primary responsibility is to oversee day-to-day operations and event management in Kinney Natatorium.
Dye came to Bucknell from the Blacksburg, Virginia area, where he previously served as aquatics tournament coordinator at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center. He managed 50 meets at the facility, including three college championships.
Previously, Dye worked as the head professional lifeguard for the Abingdon (Va.) Parks and Recreation for three-and-a-half years. In addition to hosting meets and overseeing the team of lifeguards, Dye served as a CAST head coach, working with swimmers from age five to 18.
Dye spent two seasons as head swimming coach at Abingdon High School, his alma mater, where he worked with eight state qualifiers.
Dye was a collegiate swimmer himself at King College, where he graduated in 2011 with a degree in history. He is American Red Cross certified in lifeguarding and lifeguard instruction, as well as AED/CPR and first aid for the professional rescuer.
