Update from Head Men's Golf Coach Mike Binney -- September 2024
Dear Bison Alumni, Family & Friends,
The team will travel to Annapolis, MD, this weekend for our next tournament, The GOAT, hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy. It will be a 54-hole event, 21–22 Sept, and played on the historic Naval Academy Golf Course. Annapolis is a great town to visit this time of year, and I always look forward to bringing the squad to the home of the United States Naval Academy!
Some three weeks ago, our first event of the season was Colgate’s Alex Lagowitz Memorial Tournament at Seven Oaks GC in Hamilton, NY. The event is named in honor of Colgate men’s golfer Alex Lagowitz, who died tragically soon after graduating. It is a special event that we always look forward to competing in each year. The event was a solid outing for the squad, finishing 6th in the 15-team field. During the event, we notched some solid performances within the squad.
Sophomore Hayden Quinn led all Bison scorers with a (-3) 141, which garnered him a top-five finish in a tough field of 100 competitors. Senior Mike Rudnick added a top-30 performance, shooting a combined 147 (+3) over the 36-hole event. Freshman Patrick Pritsios posted scores of 77/73 (+6) for his first collegiate tournament, and junior James Key and freshman Jack Hartman rounded out the team scores at (+7) and (+9), respectively.
What struck me was that these same scores would have been competitive enough to win the event in the early stages of my career here at Bucknell, which only speaks to the increasingly competitive nature of college golf over the past decade.
Looking forward to the rest of the fall season, I’m proud of what the guys accomplished at Colgate and, in the last few weeks, preparing for the Navy’s tournament. We have readied ourselves to compete in some of the most competitive events the team has played in quite some time, which will only make us tougher in the long run.
In short, we are ready to go!
Go Bison!
