Update from Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Frank Fedorjaka -- December 2023

Hello Everyone!
Â
We just finished our last week of training before the break. We are permitted to practice and train with the team up until a week before finals begin, so our last practice was Wednesday, November 29. We had a team lift test during that week and the guys' numbers look great -- they have worked very hard during this offseason period. Now it's up to the guys to stay sharp and continue to work over break. They have a program and regiment that they should stick to and I look forward to seeing them come back ready to go!
If you haven't had a chance to see our 2024 schedule yet, be sure to put it in your calenders!
Â
There are a few notes of interest to update you on. First of all, one of my assistant coaches, Kyle Gallagher, brought in a new member to the Bison Athletics Family -- a baby girl -- on November 16. Her name is Blake Nicole Gallagher. It is their first child, so these are exciting and life-changing times for Kyle and Gwyn.
Â
Secondly, on the leadership front, we have named our captains for the 2024 season. I am very excited to announce that Richie Striano ’24 (voted unanimously), Connor Davis ’25, Dutch Furlong ’24, and Ethan Gyllenhaal ’24 were named to lead this team on our Patriot League Championship journey. They each bring unique leadership skills to the table. Aside from being a great player, Richie has energy, enthusiasm, a warrior mentality, and the ability to connect with every member of our team and staff. Connor is only a junior but he has displayed an extraordinary drive to be the best he can be both on and off the field with his work ethic and relentless approach. Dutch has shown to be an exceptional player for us on game day and has worked hard this year to bring it every day in practice and in the weight room. He has an extremely high lacrosse IQ which allows him to communicate with players and coaches effectively. Ethan shows up each day with a smile on his face and competes every second of every day. He works well with the younger guys and has a lot of gameday experience.
Â
We have continued with our "Leadership Council", which gives the younger guys an opportunity to lead along with taking on some extra accountability and responsibility. We ask these young men to do the following: support the Core Values of the program, bring ideas to the staff, communicate within their class, keep the locker room clean, etc. The group that was named by the staff includes first-years Luke Brunner and Patrick Mullen; sophomores Will Hopkins, Will Pickering, and Louie Germain; and juniors Ben Bonafede and Cam Doolan. These guys have all shown strong qualities to lead now and into the future. This group can be fluid. As the year moves along, we can add or subtract from the Leadership Council.
Â
We have settled on our Program's Core Values. These are the pillars upon which our focus will be every day: SELFLESS, ENERGY, SMART, and RELENTLESS. If we can maintain a team-first mentality, play with great effort on a daily basis, take pride in every decision we make, and never ever let up, then we will be in the mix to win the Patriot League Championship this year and for years ahead. Â
Â
I wish you and your family the best and Happy Holidays.
