Fall Charge -- Andrew Viola (Men's Crew)

Dear Bucknell Men’s Crew Community,
I can still remember the first time I realized I loved to compete and win. I was swimming in a pool in 4th grade, and I found myself pushing myself past what I found comfortable because I wanted to beat the other swimmers in my lane. In 8th grade, I found rowing and the combination of competing while also working with my best friends drew me in.
As I grew older and became more physically and mentally mature, I began to compete more and more and hold myself to a higher standard, not only in practice but in all aspects of life.
Bucknell University Men’s Crew has continued to provide me with this opportunity, and I have grown to not only love competing and working with my friends but also to truly love this sport and everything it has to offer. I’m fascinated by the intricacies of boat mechanics, training methods, working in unison with others, and so much more. This team has been the bright spot of my day for over three years now, and I love the commitment my coaches and teammates bring every day.
Whether it’s taking down our close rivals like the University of Michigan and the University of Virginia, or defeating the big dogs like Georgetown and Hobart, Bucknell has given me the opportunity to compete and train against some of the biggest and fastest programs in the nation. Now that I’m going into my fourth and final year, I want nothing more than to have a successful ending and to leave the program set up for long-term success.
This team has allowed me to flourish as a student-athlete and succeed on the water. I’ve grown as a rower, a person, and a leader over my time here, and I want to thank all of our alumni for that opportunity because it is your continued commitment and support to this program that allows us to succeed. I’m proud to call this team my family and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for all the future members of BUMC.
On behalf of all my teammates and coaches, I would like to thank all of you for your support. When I line up at the starting line for our races, I’m proud to wear the Orange & Blue of Bucknell.
Go Bison!
