Mission Statement
The Office of Athletic Training strives to set a high standard of care and excellence for our intercollegiate athletic programs. We believe prevention, care and rehabilitation are core issues in a vast interdisciplinary function of sports medicine.
Philosophy
The Bucknell University Athletic Training Team is committed to providing the best care for our student-athletes. Our injury and rehab protocols are developed to help decrease athletic related injuries, increase injury recovery time, and combines strength and flexibility, endurance and sports specific functional activities.
General Overview of Our Program
The Bucknell University Athletic Training Staff prides itself on providing the most current and comprehensive care available to all of our intercollegiate student-athletes. Under the leadership and guidance of the Director of Student Health Services and the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine, the staff athletic trainers work closely with Geisinger Orthopedic Surgeons in providing state-of-the-art Sports Medicine Coverage for student-athletes at Bucknell University.
The prevention of athletic injuries is one of the most important components to an individual's as well as a team's success. However, in the unfortunate event that an athlete is injured, the team of sports medicine specialists at Bucknell will guide the athlete through the Sports Medicine Continuum - from injury to diagnosis to treatment / rehabilitation to return to play. Returning the athlete to the pre-injury level of competition as quickly and safely as possible is the ultimate goal of the sports medicine team.
Even after a team's competitive season is completed, the sports medicine team will follow all injuries to the athlete's pre-injury status. During this time, the staff will analyze past injury data from each athlete and construct a prevention program along with the guidance strength training staff.
The Sports Medicine Center is currently located in the Kenneth Langone Athletic Recreation Center (KLARC). Another training room is located at the Pascucci Team Center at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. Additionally, there is a third facility located between the Sojka Pavilion and Kinney Pool of the KLARC. The Sports Medicine Center and Pascucci Team Center include numerous treatment modalities including electric stimulation, ultrasound, hydrotherapy, and cryotherapy. The hallmark of the Sports Medicine Center is our two hydrotherapy tubs (one hot and one cold). Each can hold between 6-10 athletes.
All student-athletes have access to the Student Health Service located in the Graham Building. The Student Health Service houses the main health files of our student-athletes. All general health problems are handled at the Student Health Service.
Whatever the needs are to get an athlete back to play, whether it's orthopedics, physical therapy, to name a few, the sports medicine staff at Bucknell University is dedicated to providing athletes with the finest care available.
