LEWISBURG, Pa.- Kailey Granger entered her senior cross country year healthy after an injury prematurely ended her junior track & field campaign. Her return to competition saw the Bison captain tie teammate Kerry O'Day for first at the Bucknell-Lafayette Dual. The placement earned Granger Patriot League Women's Runner of the Week, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the conference office.Â
"Both Kailey and Kerry ran very nice races with a conservative first 2K and a fast last 2K," head coach Kevin Donner said. "They had nice summers. I am especially pleased for Kailey because she was unable to finish the spring outdoor season due to an injury, which hindered the beginning of her summer, but she seems to be pretty fit right now and obviously had a great start to her season."
It is Granger's first weekly award since winning Rookie of the Week on Sept. 5, 2023 and the third straight year that a Bison runner received Runner of the Week honors.Â
Granger clocked 13:59.20 in her first-ever collegiate cross country victory. She paced the race from the opening gun and never relinquished the lead. The captain and O'Day led the Bison effort that ensured three of the top five finishers were Orange & Blue harriers and powered Bucknell to a 21-40 victory over the Leopards.Â
The victory was Bucknell's first dual-meet win since 2011 when the Bison defeated Duquesne and Pittsburgh. The dual used to be the standard format for cross country but was discarded over the years in favor of large invitationals.Â
Bucknell returns to action this Friday at Penn State's Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational.Â
