LEWISBURG, Pa. – Freshman Mattea Issa tied for ninth at 4-under-par in her collegiate debut at the Nittany Lion Invitational to earn the first Patriot League Women's Golfer of the Week honor this season. Issa carded a record-setting 67 (-5) in her final round at the par-72 Penn State White Course, becoming the sixth Patriot League golfer to record a round of 67 or better.
Issa, a native of Kingston, Jamaica, made 15 birdies over the 54-hole tournament, including five in the second round and an incredible seven birdies in the final round. Her 67 is Bucknell's lowest score in program history, and her mark of 5-under par is the lowest in relation to par.
After a 74 (+2) in her first round, Issa was three strokes better in round two with a 71 (-1). Her second round included five birdies, and she made three in a row to shoot 3-under-par on the front nine.
In her final round, she began with a bogey on the 11th before knocking down birdies on the next two holes. She was even par through eight holes heading to the front nine where she dialed in the shoot 5-under over the final 10 holes. She made birdies on five of the first seven holes on the front nine.
Altogether, Issa was 8-under-par on the front nine holes for the tournament, and 11 of 15 birdies came on the front nine holes.
Issa helped the Bison set 18-, 26- and 54-hole records, and the Bison finished under-par as a team in both the second and third rounds, a feat accomplished for the first time in program history.
Bucknell collects the first Patriot League Weekly honor of the season after earning 10 of 18 possible awards in 2025-26.
The Bison also swept the Golfer of the Week awards as Bucknell men's golfer Charlie Barrickman was named the Men's golfer of the Week after winning the Alex Lagowitz Memorial Tournament. Barrickman carded three rounds under-par to win his first collegiate tournament in his debut.
The Bison women are back in action on Friday morning for the three-day Bucknell Fall Invitational at the Bucknell Golf Course.
