Althouse & Tunnicliff Named Men's & Women's Bison of the Week

LEWISBURG, Pa.- For the first time starting in the 2026-27 season, Bucknell Athletics will name a weekly men's and women's Bison of the Week. The first recipients of this prestigious honor are Sarah Althouse of the field hockey team and Sean Tunnicliff of the men's water polo program.Â
Althouse, who was named the 2026 Patriot League Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year, immediately advanced her first claim to the regular season award. The senior goalie helped Bucknell to a 2-0 weekend against Ball State and Sacred Heart. She played an outstanding game between the pipes against Ball State, holding the MAC opponent scoreless for her ninth career clean sheet. Althouse recorded seven saves against the Cardinal attack. She followed up on Sunday with a 2-1 victory over NEC powerhouse Sacred Heart. While the score sheet only credited her with two saves, Althouse made several plays that were not recorded as saves but were just as crucial to maintaining Bucknell's slim lead. The goalkeeper ventured off her line multiple times to prevent open looks at the cage. She moved up to third all-time in Bucknell history for wins (26), seventh in winning percentage (.529), and eighth in saves (258).Â
Tunnicliff led the Bucknell assemblage against a fearsome opening weekend lineup at the Triton Invitational. The Bison faced four ranked Division I teams, including No. 1 UCLA - the reigning national champion - and No. 4 Division III Occidental. Bucknell went 1-4 against the stacked schedule but the Orange & Blue held their own. Tunnicliff recorded eight goals on the weekend. He notched a team-high four tallies in the win over Occidental and found the cage three times against No. 1 UCLA.Â
Bucknell field hockey resumes action this weekend with another pair of home games versus Quinnipiac (Sept. 4) and Cornell (Sept. 6). Men's water polo will be idle until the Princeton Invitational (Sept. 12-13).Â
