LEWISBURG, Pa. – For the third week in a row and fourth time this season, Bucknell center Amon Dörries has been voted PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Rookie of the Week. Dörries averaged 23.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in Bucknell's 1-1 week, and on the heels of three straight 20+ point outings, he has taken over as the Patriot League's leading freshman scorer at 15.2 points per game.
Dörries logged 21 points and seven rebounds in Wednesday's road win at American, shooting 8-for-12 from the field and 5-for-7 from the foul line. Against Colgate on Saturday, the 6'11" center from Potsdam, Germany, tallied 25 points and six rebounds. He scored 20 of his 25 points in the second half – Bucknell's first 20-point half in two seasons – and finished 9-for-15 from the field, 1-for-3 from the 3-point arc, and 6-for-8 from the foul line.
Dörries now has six 20-point games on the season, with a high of 36 in Bucknell's 103-97 double-overtime win over Boston University on Jan. 31. That was a single-game scoring record for a Bison freshman, and Dörries is climbing the single-season points chart as well. His 379 points are third-most in a season by a Bucknell freshman, trailing only Gerald Purnell (467) and Bob Barry (441).
The Bison had their two-game winning streak snapped by second-place Colgate on Saturday, and now they host first-place Navy on Monday night at 6 p.m.
