Bison Fall 4-3 to Villanova in Tight Match

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's tennis team's match came down to the third set in the No. 2 singles match, but Villanova came away with a 6-3 win in the set to take a 4-3 win on Saturday afternoon at the Central PA Tennis Center.
Abby Platt and Olivia Corcoran faced on in the No. 1 spot, and Platt took the match in 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 in the third set to level the match 3-3.
At 3-3, only Tori Allen and Villanova's Maggie Gehrig were left to finish in the No. 2 slot. Allen had won the first set 6-4, but Gehrig took the second set 7-6 in a tiebreaker. Gehrig finished the final set with a 6-3 win to give Villanova (4-4) the win on the road over Bucknell (4-3).
Villanova took the doubles point, winning both the No.1 and No. 2 doubles slots. Platt and Riley Jennings fell to Gehrig and Emi Callahan 6-3. Jaycie Mair and Summer Even-Esh fell to Jenna Stevens and Lauren Monti 6-2. Cameron King and Natalie Devraj were all square with Miriram Gondorova and Olivia Corcoran 5-5 when the Wildcats clinched the doubled point.
Gondorova took the first singles point of the match in the No. 3 spot, winning 6-3, 6-1 over Mair. At No. 6, Devraj got a point back for the Bison in three sets, defeating Alina Kornyeva 6-4, 1-6, 6-1.
King fell to Monti in another three-setter at No. 5. After losing the first set 6-4, King came back with a 6-2 win in the second set. Monti then won the third set 6-0.
Mirra Manolav won the No. 4 singles 7-5, 7-5, taking down Stevens.
Bucknell is off to Massachusetts next weekend, opening its 2026 Patriot League slate with Boston University on Friday at 4 p.m. The Bison then take on Merrimack at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday
