The Bucknell men's soccer team is set for a vital matchup against Navy on Friday night at Emmitt Field. The Bison and the Midshipmen kick off at 7 p.m. with important playoff implications on the line for both sides. Bucknell will celebrate its nine members of the senior class prior to the match.
Â
Bucknell is coming off of tough 2-1 loss to Army on the road where the Black Knights earned their first conference win of the season. Navy is coming off of a heartbreaking loss to Loyola (Md.), 5-4, where the Greyhounds scored three times in the final six minutes of action.
Â
Despite falling to last-place Army, the Bison remained in fourth place in the Patriot League standings. Loyola's win saw the Greyhounds get even on 10 points with the Bison, and the two sides will meet up next Tuesday for the final Patriot League matchday of the season.
Â
With a Bucknell win over Navy and a Colgate loss to Lehigh, the Bison would clinch a playoff berth. Boston University and American have clinched playoff spots already, and Boston U. needs just one win over the next two matches to guarantee the top seed. American is second with 14 points, and Lehigh is just behind with 13 points.
Â
Behind Bucknell and Loyola is Lafayette with nine points, Colgate with eight points and Navy with seven points. Holy Cross is in ninth with six points, and Army has three points. Despite Army's first win of the season, the Black Knights are the first team eliminated from postseason contention. Â
Â
The Patriot League has struggled to get results in non-conference action as all teams have combined for a 12-41-24 record out of conference. Bucknell, Colgate and Navy are the only teams with multiple non-conference wins, and the Bison are the only program with three non-conference wins. Â
