LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell freshman center Amon Dörries earned his second PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week citation on Monday on the heels of a season-best 26-point performance at Loyola over the weekend.
Dörries, who also earned a Rookie of the Week nod back in the first week of the season in November, played 38 minutes against the Greyhounds with Bucknell's front line thinned out by injuries. He went 11-for-19 from the field and scored 26 of the team's 62 points in a 67-62 that came down to the final seconds. He scored 15 of his 26 points in the second half as Bucknell rallied from a 10-point deficit, and he also grabbed seven rebounds.
Dörries battled some second-half foul trouble in a mid-week 87-84 overtime loss to Army, but he still managed 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting in 35 minutes. He drove the lane for a tiebreaking layup with 11 seconds left in regulation, but the Black Knights tied it with two late free throws and won it on a 3-pointer just before the final buzzer in overtime.
The Potsdam, Germany native now has three 20-point games on the season and is Bucknell's leading scorer at 13.4 points per game. He is shooting 51.2 percent from the field and 79.5 percent from the free-throw line. In Patriot League play, Dörries scores at a 14.6 ppg clip while shooting 54.1 percent from the field, 41.2 percent from 3-point distance, and 78.3 percent from the foul line.
The Bison are back in action on Wednesday at Lafayette at 7 p.m.
