WEST POINT, N.Y.- With the score tied 9-9 at intermission, Army (2-4, 2-0 EIWA) finished the dual on a 14-3 run to defeat Bucknell (5-8, 3-1 EIWA) for a 23-12 victory on a cold Saturday afternoon. The two teams entered the dual unbeaten in conference play and both were evenly matched before the Black Knights rallied for a final charge. Army's victory was keyed by two bonus points bouts and winning all four ranked matches.
Bucknell led 3-0 after Riley Bower (149) opened the dual with a 3-0 decision. Army quickly reversed the situation with two wins. The Black Knights won the 157-pound match when Cade Wirnsberger was called for a controversial stall call giving the 6-5 sudden victory to the Cadets. No. 16 Gunner Filipowicz (165) pinned No. 21 Noah Mulvaney and Army had the 9-3 advantage.
The Bison battled back to tie the proceedings. No. 19 Myles Takats toughened out a 5-3 decision over Andrew Christie. Tyler Bienus overcame a faulty review, a concussion check, and a tenacious opponent to tie the dual at 9-9. Bienus, the reigning Bison of the Week, led 5-4 before a questionable takedown was called. He fought back with a reversal to send the match to extra time. He clinched the 10-7 win with a clutch takedown.
Intermission seemed to zap Bucknell's hard-earned momentum. No. 28 Wolfgang Frable upset No. 21 Dillon Bechtold (197) in a 4-1 decision. Frable gained the takedown with ten seconds remaining. No. 17 Brady Colbert edged No. 30 Lucas Lawler (285) in a 5-4 decision.
Kade Davidheiser (125) halted the bleeding with a 9-7 decision but No. 21 Ethan Berginc won the dual for Army with a 19-4 tech fall over Bryce Manera (133). No. 16 Braden Basile's 4-2 decision over No. 31 Dylan Chappell (141) was an added bonus for the Cadets.
