LEWISBURG, Pa. – Freshman men's swimmer Jason Kellerman posted two wins, including a new top-10 time in the 200 fly to earn this week's Patriot League Rookie of the Week honor. On top of his two wins, he added two second-place finishes and two more top-five finishes in individual events in meets against Loyola and La Salle this past weekend.
Kellerman's big win came in the 200 fly against Loyola, swimming a time of 1:47.26 to win the event by more than two seconds. That time is good for the fourth-fastest in program history, beating his previous mark of 1:48.82 set at the BU Invite in November.
Kellerman followed up the win with a third-place finish in the 100 fly (49.16) as Bucknell's top swimmer in the event. He then took second in the 200 IM (1:51.70), finishing just behind fellow freshman Drew Davis. Altogether, Kellerman earned 16 points at Loyola.
Kellerman came back to win the 200 IM the following day against La Salle. Kellerman was behind at the start of the final leg, but swam two seconds faster than the La Salle swimmer to take the win in 1:53.32.
Earlier in the day, he took second in the 200 backstroke (1:52.78) and fifth in the 100 backstroke (51.84). Kellerman also swam the third leg of the 200 medley relay team that took second.
Bucknell is back in action on Saturday for Senior Day against Lehigh in the Kinney Natatorium. Senior Recognition will begin at 12:45 p.m., followed by events beginning at 1 p.m.
