LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell freshman guard Pat Curtin has been named the PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Rookie of the Week and the Bison of the Week after his sensational performance in Saturday's 70-67 home win over Loyola.
Curtin scored a career-high 25 points against the Greyhounds, 17 coming in the second half as the Bison stormed back from an early 17-4 deficit. Curtin went 10-for-17 from the field, and he also turned in the biggest defensive play of the game when he drew an offensive foul with his team clinging to a two-point lead with 2.4 seconds remaining.
Curtin's 25 points were the most by a Bucknell freshman since Gordon Mboya tallied 27 in an 80-73 win over Harvard at the Music City Invitational in Nashville on Dec. 29, 1993.
Curtin, who also had 11 points in a loss at Navy last week, joined the starting lineup at the start of Patriot League play, just as he returned from a four-game injury absence. In those four conference games, he is averaging 15.3 points per game, which ranks 11th in the league, and his 10 steals in the four games are the most in the league. For the full season, Curtin is averaging 9.8 points in his 12 appearances.
Bucknell is 2-2 in Patriot League action following the win over Loyola. The Bison are back home on Wednesday to face Lafayette at 7:30 p.m. That will be the second leg of a hoops doubleheader, as the Bucknell women also host Lafayette at 5 p.m.
