Women's Tennis Announces 2025 Freshman Class

LEWISBURG, Pa. — Women's tennis coach Tammy Cecchini and the Bucknell women's tennis team welcomed three freshmen to the roster this fall; Summer Even-Esh, Katherine Purpura and Mariana Shulman.
"Summer, Kate and Mariana are three different types of tennis players who will bring three different types of strengths to the court," said Cecchini. "I am excited for the variety, diversity and energy they will bring to our team this season!"
The three newcomers hail from three different states; New Jersey, Massachusetts and California. All three players have earned team and league MVP honors.
Below is more information on the three members of the Bucknell women's tennis freshman class.
Manasquan, N.J. | Manasquan HS
Before Bucknell: Lettered four years in tennis at Manasquan HS…three-time first team all-state…one-time second team all-state (freshman year)...individually went undefeated in the regular season of 2023 and 2024…two-time first singles Monmouth County Champion…four-time division champions…four-time Central Jersey group two semifinalist…Haddonfield Doubles Invitational Champions…two-time Monmouth County Champions…four-time state tournament qualifier…two time round of 16 qualifier…four-time team MVP…two-time team captain…NJSIAA National Girls and Women in Sports Day winner…led her team to an undefeated regular season of play her senior year…garnered an overall high school record of 89-9.
Personal: Summer Jordan Even-Esh…born August 28, 2006 in Summit, NJ…daughter of Danielle and Zach Even-Esh.

Before Bucknell: Lettered in tennis…two-time league doubles player of the year…two-time team captain…Orange County Athletic Directors Association Athlete of the Character Award Recipient…team MVP…San Joaquin League Doubles Champion…two-time Orange Coast League Doubles Champion…over 100 career wins.
Personal: Katherine Elizabeth Purpura…born April 9, 2007 in Arlington, VA…daughter of Michael and Betsy Purpura…mother played tennis at University of Arizona…father played tennis at the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Before Bucknell: Competed in tennis throughout high school…two-time league MVP…one-time GCL League Champion…two-time New England Sectionals Champions.
Personal: Mariana Shulman…born July 8, 2006 in Boston, Mass…daughter of Victoria and Vladimir Shulman.
