LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell freshman Jack Hartman finished off an outstanding debut at the Patriot League Championship with a birdie on the 18th hole, helping the Bison catch Colgate for fourth place as the tournament wrapped up on Sunday at sunny but windy Bucknell Golf Club. Hartman finished tied for fourth individually and earned Patriot League Rookie of the Year and First Team All-Patriot League honors, and classmate Patrick Pritsios tied for 12th to earn a spot on the All-PL Second Team.
Pace of play was slow on Sunday as the gusty winds caused the players to back off shots and re-think yardages. Bucknell managed the conditions well, and its final-round 287 was the second-best in the field to Colgate's 285. Loyola shot 288 to Holy Cross' 289, and the Greyhounds (849 total) clipped the Crusaders (850) by one shot to claim the team title. Army West Point finished third at 854, followed by Bucknell and Colgate at 855. Navy (861), Lafayette (865), and Lehigh (873) rounded out the field.
Hartman had a terrific weekend, posting 69-71-70 for an even-par 210. Hartman, who made three birdies on the front nine and then a fourth with a nice 10-foot putt at 18, joined Colgate's Robbie Herzig and Leo Li in the tie for fourth. Holy Cross' Nolan Schuermann and Lafayette's Quint Dingledine tied for the individual lead at 2-under 208, and Schuermann won the championship with a par on the first playoff hole. Loyola's Gustavo Rangel was third at 1-under.
Pritsios carded 71-71-72 for a 4-over total of 214 and a Second Team All-Patriot League medal. This is the first time that Bucknell has had two freshmen earn All-PL honors in the same season. Hartman became Bucknell's fifth Rookie of the Year, following Andrew Cohen in 2007, Peter Scialabba in 2012, J.P. Raftery in 2016, and Alex Creamean last season.
Hartman also followed in the footsteps of his father, Josh, who was a two-time All-Patriot League honoree in 1996 and 1997. The elder Hartman's top PL finish was also fourth at Saucon Valley Country Club in 1996.
James Key turned in his best round of the weekend with a Sunday 72, and the Bison also counted a 73 from senior Michael Rudnick. A former All-Patriot League selection himself, Rudnick had a strong finish to his career. He birdied 11, 12, and 15 on the way to a 1-under 33 on the back nine.
James Robbins finished with a 74 and Hayden Quinn with a 75. All six Bison had at least one round counted in the tournament.
