Women's Tennis Ends its Season with a Heartbreaking Patriot League Quarterfinal Loss to Lehigh

Hamilton, N.Y. - Bucknell's season came to a heartbreaking end on Friday afternoon as the #5 seeded Bison fought to the final point, but ultimately fell to #4 seeded Lehigh 4-3 in the Patriot League Quarterfinals.Â
Bucknell opened up the match with a Court 2 doubles win for Caroline Marcus and Riley Jennings as the duo defeated Alina Shyani and Ronit Khromchenko 6-2. Lehigh immediately answered by tying doubles play with a Court 1 win 6-4 over the Bison. With doubles tied 1-1, the Court 3 match between Cameron King and Jaycie Mair and Hamsa Javagal and Audrey Harrington became the doubles point-winning match. King and Mair were able to pull out a win for the Bison defeating the Mountain Hawks duo 7-5 and giving Bucknell a 1-0 heading into singles play.
Singles began with Lehigh taking two singles matches right off the bat on Court 2 and Court 3 to take a 2-1 lead. Bucknell's Jennings responded with a 6-4, 6-3 victory on Court 6 over Khromchenko to tie the match at two. Giselle Vlassis then took the Court 4 point for the Mountain Hawks to put them ahead by one, but Jaycie Mair took care of things on Court 5 defeating Allyce Gaborik in three sets 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 which tied the quarterfinal match at three with one match still playing.Â
It all came down to the Court 1 singles match between Bucknell senior Whitney King and Lehigh's Maggie Forkner. W. King took the first set in a confident fashion 6-1, but the Mountain Hawk would bounce back and tie it in the second set with a 6-4 win, so it all came down to the third and final set between W. King and Forkner to decide who would move on to the semifinals. The match went back and forth, but Forkner was able to squeak out the Court 1 singles victory for the Mountain Hawks 7-5 to push her team into the Patriot League Semifinals and ultimately end the Bison's 2025 season in heartbreaking fashion.
