ANNAPOLIS, Md. – A runner-up finish from the 400-yard freestyle relay team marked a strong finish for the Bucknell men's swimming and diving team at the ECAC Open Championships, which wrapped up on Sunday evening at Navy's Lejeune Hall. The Bison finished in fourth place in the team standings with 356 points.
Host Navy won the title with 850 points, followed by Loyola with 461.5 and Columbia with 443. The Bison were 127 points in front of fifth-place Fairfield in a field of 21 scoring teams.
Bucknell posted two more top-10 times in team history on Sunday, highlighted by the silver-medal-winning performance from the 400 free relay. Justin DiSanto, Nick Shopis, Drew Greene, and Chris Kopac finished in 2:59.69, eighth-fastest in team history. Navy won the relay in 2:57.28, and the Bison edged Columbia by just .06 seconds for second place.
Kopac moved into eighth all-time in the 200 butterfly when he finished fifth in 1:49.26. He was one of four Bison point-scorers in that event. Alex Crossing finished sixth, Finn Franks ninth, and Ed Park 12th.
Earlier in the evening, Chase Ferguson placed eighth and Avery Kuhn 12th in the 200 backstroke. Greene took 13th in the 100 free, and then Andy Dorsel (4th), Will Hedges (6th), and Dante Buonadonna (13th) all scored in the 200 breaststroke. Hedges broke the school record in the 200 breast last weekend at the Patriot League Championships, and Dorsel will graduate with the third-fastest time in that event.
