LEWISBURG, Pa.- One week after winning USBWA (U.S. Basketball Writers Association) National Player of the Week, Ashley Sofilkanich received another designation from the organization by being named to its 2024-25 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Midseason Watch List as announced Monday. Sofilkanich is one of 11 mid-major players on the 50-woman list and one of only two Patriot League hoopers honored.Â
The Ann Meyers Drysdale Award winner is to be announced at the NCAA Women's Final Four in Tampa, from April 4-6. The formal presentation of the trophy will follow at the annual USBWA Awards Luncheon hosted by the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
USBWA Release
Sofilkanich has developed into one of the nation's finest post players in her sophomore season. The forward ranks first in the Patriot League and 18th nationally in points per game (20.3). Her blocks per game (2.43) total rates ninth nationally. She has become a double-double machine with nine this season (29th nationally) and 13 in her career.Â
She has scored 20+ points in 13 of Bucknell's 21 games and only dipped into single digits twice. Sofilkanich dropped a career-high 44 points on Jan. 22 versus Colgate tying the Bucknell single game record set by Bison legend Molly Creamer and establishing a new Sojka Pavilion mark. Her 21 points in the team's last outing versus Navy on Feb. 1 pushed her above the career 800-point mark at 814.Â
Sofilkanich has received four Patriot League Player of the Week honors (12/2, 12/9, 1/13, and 1/27) in 2024-25 - the most by a Bison player since Jacquie Klotz in 2015-16.Â
She entered into the Bucknell record book with her 111 career blocks slotting fifth. She recently passed Cosima Higham's (2007-11) 110 blocks for that spot. If the season ended today, her 15.7 ppg career average would rank fourth and her current single season average (20.3) slides fifth in Bucknell history.Â
The Ann Meyers Drysdale Award is presented annually to the women's national player of the year by the USBWA. Named for the legendary UCLA guard, the award was first presented in the 1987-88 season and formally named in Meyers Drysdale's honor in the 2011-12 season. Ann Meyers Drysdale played at UCLA from 1974-78, which pre-dates the USBWA All-America selections. She was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993 and the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999.
