Donner's Debriefing
"Overall, I felt very good about this meet. The competition was a perfect fit for us and the facility was great. We have to get used to traveling and many of our athletes need to get used to competing on back to back days to simulate a conference championship setting. I was pleased with how many of our athletes were able to rise to the occasion. We also sent a few 5k runners to Youngstown State and I felt they ran great. In two weeks, we will be competing in the Patriot League Championships at Navy. We had plenty of people who solidified a spot on the 32-person roster. We will have to make some tough decisions but the more candidates we have over 32 people the better the team will be."
Recap
Justley Sharp continued her legendary career with another event victory and resetting of the school indoor shot put record. The sophomore sensation threw 15.81m (51-10.25) breaking her old mark by over a foot. Sharp owns three school records including both the indoor and outdoor shot put. Sharp won the event by over two feet.
"Coach and I had been working on some technical corrections for a few weeks now," said Sharp. "Today some of those corrections finally came together and that was reflected in my performance. As the indoor season comes to a close, I am hoping to keep building on this progress through the league championships. We had a small squad at Liberty but I definitely felt plenty of support and energy from my teammates."
"Justley had a big breakthrough today," said throws coach Ryan Protzman. "She started the competition with one of her worst marks in a Bucknell uniform and I think it was the best thing that could have happened. She executed her last five throws and transferred the training to the meet really well this week. Great series, new personal record, and indoor school record. She's in a great spot heading into the championship season."
Alexandra Lea's top ten weekend continued with a sixth place finish in the Open 200-meter dash. The freshman flash flew to a 24.91 time, good enough for sixth in Bucknell history. Lea's previous best time of 25.33 ranked ninth in Bison lore.
Bucknell received another win in the 4000-meter distance medley relay. The quartet of Regan McGrath, Anna Posh, Sarah Policano, and Kerry O'Day teamed up for a victory winning time of 11:58.08 - a full two seconds faster than second place.
