LEWISBURG, Pa.- Ashley Sofilkanich's historic season continues to roll on with the sophomore forward winning her fifth Patriot League PenFed Credit Union Women's Basketball Player of the Week Award as announced Monday by the league office. Sofilkanich's five laurels are the most by a Patriot League player since Frannie Hottinger won seven in 2022-23 and the most by a Bison since Jacquie Klotz earned five in 2015-26. Sofilkanich previously received the honor on Dec. 2, Dec. 9, Jan. 13, and Jan. 27.
Sofilkanich played a key role in Bucknell's pivotal 75-65 win over second place Army. The sophomore forward tallied 25 points on an efficient 11 of 18 shooting and went 3 of 4 from the charity stripe. Due to her scoring prowess attracting extra attention, she has become an expert distributor tying a career-high in assists (7) against the Black Knights. She grabbed seven rebounds, blocked three shots, and obtained two steals.Â
Sofilkanich's exemplary performances have become commonplace to Bison fans. She has scored 20+ points in six straight games (averaging 25.6 ppg) and has done so in 15 of Bucknell's 22 contests. Her 20.5 points per game average leads the Patriot League and ranks 16th nationally. As of today, the average slots fifth in Bucknell' single-season top ten list.Â
Her height and savvy instincts have served her well in the paint. The Patriot League Preseason Defensive Player of the Year winner sits ninth nationally in blocks per game (2.4). Her 114 career blocks rank fourth in Bucknell history.
In conference games, Sofilkanich leads the league in points (22.2) and blocks (2.1) while placing third in assists (4.0), field goal percentage (.516), and rebounds (9.2).Â
Bucknell, projected to finish eighth in the preseason poll, currently is tied for fourth with Colgate and Navy.Â
The Bison and Sofilkanich head to Boston this Wednesday for another Patriot League showdown. The tip is at 6 p.m. and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.Â
