Four Bison Advance to Semifinals at the Midlands Championships

EVANSTON, ILL.- Bucknell Wrestling sent seven wrestlers to the prestigious Midlands Championships and four of the contingent advanced to the semifinals on the first day of the competition. Dylan Chappell (141), Lucas Lawler (285), Noah Mulvaney (165), and Myles Takats (174) all unlocked berths in the semifinals. Bucknell leads the competition with 55 points.Â
Chappell went 3-0 at the Bucknell Quad and continued his hot stretch with another 3-0 performance. He won all three bouts with extra points. His day started with a 11-1 major decision over Northwestern's Giouse Hickman. Chappell advanced to the quarterfinals with a pin against Eren Sement (Michigan). The semifinals ticket was punched when Chappell prevailed in a 12-4 major decision over Northern Illinois' Charles Curtis.Â
Lawler mirrored Chappell's 3-0 record and penchant for extra point victories. The Bison heavyweight tore through the competition beginning with a pin over Michigan's Lance Trost. He added a dominant 17-2 technical fall over Stanford's Jackson Mankowski. He rolled his way into the semifinals via a 14-5 major decision versus Northern Illinois' Sean Carroll.Â
Mulvaney faced two opponents and posted a 2-0 mark. After receiving a bye as the number one seed, he began the day caught in a 3-3 dual against Cal Poly's Luke Gayer before unlocking a pin. He moved into the semifinals with a 13-6 decision over Northwestern's Jacob Bostelman.Â
Takats rounded out the four Bison semifinalists with a 3-0 dance card. Central Michigan's Brayden Gautreau was his first victim falling prey to a Takats pin. Indiana's Orlando Cruz met defeat in a 17-2 technical foul. Takats rolled into the semifinals with a 11-1 major decision over Dominic Lopez (Southern lllinois-Edwardsville).Â
Tyler Bienus (184) won his first match but dropped his second bout to set up a consolation round four dual tomorrow.Â
Mikey Bartush (184) went 1-2 and Logan Shephard (285) finished 0-2 and are eliminated from competition.Â
The Midlands Championships resume tomorrow with the semifinals and championship bouts.Â
