
Wrestling Finishes Sixth at the Navy Classic

ANNAPOLIS, Md.- Bucknell finished a strong sixth out of ten teams against a field filled with national powers at the Navy Classic on Sunday. The Bison collected 54 points and placed four wrestlers on the podium. Dylan Chappell (141) headlined the Bison effort with his runner-up finish.Â
Results
Logan Shephard (285) made a solid claim for the heavyweight position by placing third. Myles Takats (174) finished fourth and Noah Mulvaney (165) claimed fifth.Â
Chappell collected three straight wins before his finals loss. He defeated Blake Cushing (Nebraska) 14-11 in the Round of 16, edged Jack Kazalas (Binghamton) 2-1 in the quarterfinals, and knocked out Briar Priest (Pittsburgh) 5-2 in the semifinals. He fought another Cornhusker Brock Hardy to the bitter end but fell 4-3.
Shephard started his third-place run with a 9-2 win over Cayden Bevis (Binghamton) in the Round of 16. He defeated Copper Rudolph (Virginia) 4-1 in the quarterfinals before losing 11-0 to Dayton Pitzer (Pittsburgh) in the semifinals. He rebounded in the third place match to defeat Emmanuel Ulrich (American) 4-1.Â
Takats received a bye for the first round and did not compete until the quarterfinals. He squeezed by Binghamton's Carter Baer with a 5-4 decision in the quarterfinals. After winning a one-point decision, Takats suffered two straight one-point losses in the semifinals and third place match. Christopher Minto (Nebraska) defeated him 10-9 and Jasiah Queen (Drexel) won 4-3.Â
Mulvaney suffered a 6-5 loss in the Round of 16 to Marco Albanese (Binghamton). He rebounded with a fall over Evan Maag (George Mason) in the Consolation Round of Eight and followed it up with a high-scoring 17-11 victory in the Consolation Round of Four against Dominic Findora (Drexel). Mulvaney defeated Davis Park (Navy) 9-4 on his home mat to claim fifth.Â
Nebraska won its third straight Navy Classic with 144 points. Pittsburgh followed with 126 points.Â
Bucknell hits the road again on Friday to face No. 10 Virginia Tech.Â
