LEWISBURG, Pa. – Enya Gilroy, an incoming first-year member of the Bucknell rowing team, recently captured a pair of gold medals at the CanAmMex International Regatta in Mexico City. Gilroy took home gold in the Women's 2x and Women's 4x events.
A native of New City, N.Y., Gilroy competed with the Rockland Rowing Association while attending Clarkstown South High School. Gilroy earned a silver medal as the stroke seat of the Women's Youth 2x for Rockland at the 2024 Youth Nationals Regatta in Sarasota, Fla., and finished 2nd at the U19 Worlds Time Trials at Lake Mercer in West Windsor, N.J. this summer. Selected for the 2024 USRowing U19 Selection Camp at the Chula Vista Elite Athletic Training Center in California, Gilroy was afforded the opportunity to be considered for a spot on the U19 Junior National Team that sent rowers to the CanAmMex Regatta or the World Championship Regatta.
Gilroy's partner in the women's double for the CanAmMex regatta was Rockland teammate Yaara Ronen, and they were joined in the quad by Zola Young from Oregon (Oregon Rowing Unlimited/University of Pennsylvania) and Viktoria Ekstrand from Florida (North Palm Beach Rowing Club). Gilroy rowed in the stroke seat in both boats. The competition took place at the site of the rowing events of the 1968 Mexico City Olympics.
"We are really proud of Enya and the work she has accomplished thus far in her young rowing career to put herself in the position to be achieving at a high level both nationally and internationally," said Bison head coach Stephen Kish. "She has an energy and motivation that is inspiring to watch and we couldn't be more excited to welcome Enya to Bucknell this fall. She will definitely bring a great work ethic, competitive desire, and speed to the program as a member of a great incoming class alongside our strong group of returning sophomores, juniors, and seniors."
Gilroy is part of a talented 10-woman recruiting class that arrived on campus on Wednesday.
