
Bison Graduate Miguel Negrete Wins Bronze at the Central American Championships

SAN SALVADOR, EL SALVADOR- Class of 2024 graduate Miguel Negrete won bronze in the decathlon in the 34th Central American Championships while competing for Honduras. The championships were held at the Estadio Jorge 'Magico' Gonzalez Stadium.Â
"Competing for your home country is a great honor for any track & field athlete and we are proud to see Miguel competing for Honduras at the Central America Championships," said Bucknell head coach Kevin Donner. "Miguel was a loyal and dedicated athlete for us and finished his career on a high note and was rewarded with this trip and meet."
Results
The multi-event athlete finished with 4996 points to clinch third place. Negrete was the second youngest competitor in the event. He was remarkably consistent, finishing third in every single event. Negrete continued his hot streak from when he finished seventh at the 2024 Patriot League Outdoor Championships in the decathlon. Â
"Not the decathlon we were hoping for but it got the job done," said Negrete. "Super thankful for the opportunity to compete for the country that means so much to me and my family. Watching high level athletes compete always is exciting and a wonderful experience. Bringing home a medal is a bonus. Once again thank you to my coaches and family for the support throughout my time at Bucknell!"
Negrete graduated from Bucknell with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Education & Psychology and will continue his track & field and educational career at Fordham University while pursuing a Master's of Administration and Supervision degree.Â
