Savannah Jones Wins Patriot League Player of the Week

LEWISBURG, Pa.- The Bucknell Bison softball team swept Lafayette this past weekend and pitcher/outfielder Savannah Jones spearheaded the effort with her pitching and hitting. The Patriot League league office took notice and awarded the dual-threat Player of the Week. Jones becomes the first Bison player since Taylor Wolfgang on March 30, 2021, to win the honor.Â
Jones was a force at the plate, batting 8-for-11 during the three-game series. She went a perfect 4-for-4 during the 3-1 win on Friday. For Game 1 on Sunday, Jones batted in both runs to win the thrilling 2-1 eight-inning game. The first run came on a double off the wall and the second run was a bloop single past the diving second baseman. Jones also started in the circle for the first game and pitched five hitless innings.Â
The junior pitcher has been a steady force in the circle for the Bison, with a 3.17 ERA and two wins. She has been a strikeout machine with 43 K in 46.1 innings. At the plate, Jones has 17 hits, three doubles, and nine RBIs.Â
Jones and the Bison play Penn State tonight at 6 p.m.
