LEWISBURG, Pa. – Sophomore attacker Alex Nesbitt recorded a career-high seven points on four goals and three assists, leading the Bucknell women's lacrosse team to a 17-11 victory over Robert Morris on Saturday afternoon at Graham Field at Holmes Stadium. Allie Boyce added four goals and two assists and Emily Baird scored three times for the Bison, who never trailed in their home opener and improved to 1-3 on the season.
Nine different players scored goals for the Bison, who took good care of the ball with only nine turnovers and 15-for-16 clearing efficiency on a cold, breezy day. Bucknell also did well in the draw circle, winning 20 of 31. Freshman Braeden Siverson recorded a career-high nine draw controls.
Jenna Irwin scored four goals and Lilli Hadden and Maya Metz had two each for the Colonials (0-4), who were only two days removed from a home loss to No. 1 Boston College after previous setbacks to Ohio State and Cincinnati.
Bucknell's defense limited Robert Morris to only one goal in a 27-minute stretch, and Siverson's goal with 5:38 left in the third quarter gave the Bison a seemingly commanding 12-4 lead. But the Colonials got back in the game with a 6-1 run, pulling within 13-10 on Irwin's goal with 8:47 to go in the fourth.
Robert Morris had two possessions to get even closer, but the Bison forced a pair of turnovers and then regained control with a key two-goal flurry in a span of only 13 seconds. Tatumn Kohlbrenner rolled under her defender to the top of the crease for a beautiful unassisted goal to make it 14-10 with 5:48 to go. Boyce won the ensuing draw control in heavy traffic on the other side of the Robert Morris restraining line, and she found Nesbitt on the back side for a breakaway finish. Nesbitt scored again at the 2:56 to ice the game at 16-10.
Bucknell broke open a 1-1 game with four straight goals in the first quarter. Boyce scored two of those, and then after Robert Morris scored a pair in succession, Boyce finished off her natural hat trick to make it 6-3 after one period.
Taylor McClain and Taylor Kopan scored the only goals in the second quarter, as the Bison held the Colonials to only five shots while forcing six turnovers in the period.
Bucknell finished with a 36-27 shot advantage. Both goalies played well. Colleen Kazanjian stopped 10 shots for the Bison, while her counterpart Sydney Riker finished with 13 saves, including a couple of point-blank robberies in the fourth quarter to help her team get back in the game.
Boyce's four goals give her 98 in her career, as she closes in on becoming the 10th 100-goal scorer in team history. She will have a chance to reach the milestone next Sunday, when the Bison host Mount St. Mary's at 12 p.m.

Biggest goal of the game right here! Allie Boyce wins the draw and feeds Alex Nesbitt for Bucknell's second goal in 13 seconds. That restored a 5-goal lead, and the Bison go on to win 17-11! #rayBucknell@PatriotLeagueTV | @ESPN pic.twitter.com/EiC67sASU0
